
Dr. Hird received her Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from University of Massachusetts-Amherst in 2007 and went on to receive her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Iowa State University in 2011. She grew up riding horses from a very young age and was one of the regulatory veterinarians for Suffolk Downs and Plainridge Race course for several years. She also ran her own small equine practice before transitioning to small animal medicine in 2014 and eventually falling in love with emergency medicine. Vanessa has a special interest in wound management and soft tissue surgery.
She currently resides in NH with her husband, son, and daughter on her family farm with numerous animals, large and small. In her free time, she is very involved with Crossfit and also has artistic talent. She has drawn several illustrations for teaching manuals and drawn portraits of animals.
